A year ago, when I first started this newsletter as Musings of an It Girl, my goal was simple: to have a creative outlet where I could share my thoughts, inspirations, and ideas without overthinking.
But a lot has changed since I wrote my very first post. A year ago, I was living the apartment life and working in a six-figure corporate entertainment job. Now, I’m a first-time homeowner, navigating life as an entrepreneur after being laid off, and I recently launched my own Brand & Web Design Studio.
The change has been scary, but it’s also been peaceful. Back when I was in the corporate world, I had this vision of the woman I felt like I was meant to be, but I had absolutely no idea how I was supposed to become her. Now, even with all the uncertainty, I feel closer to being her than ever before.
With all this growth and evolution, Musings of an It Girl no longer feels like the right fit. I’ve found myself overthinking my content, trying too hard to perfect every post, and putting pressure on myself to “teach” something every time I hit publish. It’s been draining, and it’s time for a change.
So here we are, with a rebrand that feels more honest and more aligned with where I am now. My Own Muse is my way of hitting reset. It’s about going back to basics: writing for the love of writing, sharing what’s on my mind, and letting this space be a little more raw, uncurated, and real.
That doesn’t mean you won’t still see posts about wellness, goals, and productivity—those are things I’ll never stop yapping about. It just means I’m giving myself the freedom to yap about whatever feels right, whether that’s a vent, a reflection, or just something fun.
Thank you for being here with me through this evolution. I hope this space inspires you to be your own muse, too.
Cheers to a fresh start,
Daijah Janae
*P.S. I’m still obsessing over my brand shoot photos for my studio so, of course, Substack had to see them too 🤭*
